Delhi Police dismisses reports of tension in West Delhi, says don't believe rumors, situation peaceful

The Delhi Police on Sunday said the situation in the national capital is completely normal and peaceful after reports of tense situation in South East and West District of Delhi were circulated on social media.
According to a tweet by ANI, two suspects have been apprehended in the matter and taken to a police station for further action.
MS Randhawa, PRO, Delhi Police, has appealed to the people of Delhi to maintain calm and said that strict actions will be taken against those spreading rumours.
Speaking to India Today TV, MS Randhawa said: "We will take action against the rumour mongers. No incidence of violence was reported from anywhere in the capital. The situation is under control here."
He further said that senior officers are on field checking on the situation and other police officials have also been deployed at the spot.
"Police are closely the monitoring situation," he said.
"Police will investigate the matter and take action against any anti-social elements trying to such spread rumours," MS Randhawa said
"We have registered FIRs against these anti-social elements earlier too and will lodge more if need comes," MS Randhawa said
He even appeals to people not to spread rumours since it is a crime.
"Even in North-East Delhi, the situation is normal. We have not received a single riot-related call in the past 4 days," MS Randhawa said.
MS Randhawa's statement comes after the DMRC resumed services at seven metro stations, particularly in West Delhi, after closing them for less than an hour. The DMRC citied security reason for doing so.
The DMRC on Sunday took to micro-blogging website Twitter to announce that the entry and exit gates of Tilak Nagar metro station had been closed. The tweet carrying the notification "security update" was sent out at 7:53 pm on February 1.
In a second "security update" sent out at 8:23, DMRC's official Twitter handle sent out a tweet saying that the entry and exit gates of Nangloi, Surajmal Stadium, Badarpur, Tughlakabad, Uttam Nagar West and Nawada have also been closed.
Later taking to Twitter, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Delhi) said: "Rumor is the biggest enemy". The tweet further said that a rumour has been noticed that there is some tension in the Khyala-Raghubir Nagar area of West District. "There is no truth behind it. All are requested to keep calm as the situation is absolutely normal and peaceful," said the tweet. More details are awaited as this is a developing story.
