Sharjeel Imam met Badruddin Ajmal over Anti-CAA agitation, says Assam minister,JNU
Assam Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed, "Not only with Ajmal, but Sharjeel Imam had also been in touch with many people of Assam and the police are investigating the matter."
"Reports have been published in the newspapers by quoting police that Sharjeel Imam talked to Badruddin Ajmal. But the police are yet to bring the matter in front of me. Those people who have been in touch with him and if the unlawful matter was discussed, then action will be taken against them, Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The minister also claimed that Sharjeel Imam had been in touch with many people in Assam and he had also been in touch with few others over the phone.
On February 24, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Guwahati had extended Sharjeel Imam’s police remand by another four days.
JNU student Sharjeel was handed over to the Assam Police team earlier on February 19 by the Patiala House Court.
JNU research scholar Sharjeel Imam had allegedly met All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal at his Delhi residence and took part in a secret meeting to discuss the anti-CAA agitation.

On February 20, a team of Assam Police had brought Sharjeel Imam to Guwahati from Delhi via Dibrugarh bound Brahmaputra mail.
The Assam Police had taken him to Guwahati with tight security.

Delhi Police had arrested Imam in Bihar on January 28 and following his controversial remark, Assam Police had also registered a case against the JNU scholar.
