India coronavirus confirmed positive cases have crossed 8000-mark taking the toll to 8,356 including 273 deaths while 716 patients have recovered after getting infected with the deadly virus.
With 909 new cases reported in 24 hours, the total number of Covid-19 patients in India rose past 8000 mark and the death toll reached 273. 716 patients have been cured so far, Ministry of Health said in its latest update. The situation continues to be grim in the United States, as the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 topped 20,000, according to data compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
The latest figures come a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who held a four-hour meet with at least 13 chief ministers on video conference on Saturday, indicated that the nationwide lockdown would be extended by two weeks.
The "total lockdown" began on March 25 to control the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. This time, however, as the government extends the shutdown, it is likely to expand its focus to salvaging the economy, while trying to control the spread of the virus to save lives at the same time amid rising number of cases.
