Janta Curfew on, PM Modi thanks people for staying indoors

NEW DELHI: As millions of people across the country stayed indoors in support of 'Janta Curfew', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appreciated the efforts of citizens and said India has decided to "fight the menace" of COVID-19 together.
Saying that people's support is emphatic, PM Modi retweeted a series of tweets from several people, thanking them for their efforts.

Retweeting a video of Cannaught Place, Delhi, PM Modi said, "The people of India have decided- we are in this together. We will fight the menace of COVID-19 together."

Another retweeted post mentioned how there was less traffic on the roads as Janta curfew was being followed.
The PM also appreciated the eminent personalities for "encouraging a stay at home Sunday" to fight coronavirus.
In another tweet, PM Modi said: Quality family time, television and some good food. Each of you is a valued soldier in this battle against COVID-19. Your being alert and cautious can help lakhs of other lives.

PM Modi in another post added that this was also the time to ensure social distancing. "Digital Payments help you do that. Let’s listen to these stalwarts and adopt digital payments."
Streets wore a deserted look and bare number of vehicles were on the roads on Sunday in an unprecedented shutdown on PM Modi's appeal for a 'Janta Curfew' to help check the spread of coronavirus.
As the 14-hour 'Janta Curfew' got underway at 7 am, people kept themselves indoors as part of the social distancing exercise to help stop the spread of the virus.
All markets and establishments except those dealing in essential goods and services are closed for the day. The 'Janta curfew' will end at 9 pm.
Ahead of the start of the curfew, PM Modi said, "In a few minutes from now, the #JantaCurfew commences. Let us all be a part of this curfew, which will add tremendous strength to the fight against COVID-19 menace".

He said the steps to be taken now will help in the times to come.
