Naresh Gujral, MP of key NDA constituent Shiromani Akali Dal, on Thursday likened the violence in northeast Delhi to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, alleging that police didn't take action on his complaint seeking help for 16 people trapped in riot-hit areas. Gujral shot off a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik asking him to look into the issue as to why no police action followed even as he had personally called up police on 100 to rescue a group of people seeking help during the riots in northeast Delhi. "Delhi Police's inaction towards protecting the lives and properties of minorities in the national capital is reminiscent of what happened during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. No one would want a repeat of 1984," he said.
